Walkway Improvements Coming to Ward 6 to Enhance Safety and Accessibility
Resident safety and accessibility continue to be important priorities in Ward 6, and I am pleased to share an update on upcoming improvements to the walkway connecting Nelson Circle and Shanahan Boulevard.
Following resident feedback and ongoing assessments by Town staff, this important walkway has been identified for upgrades to address health and safety concerns and improve the overall experience for those who use it every day.
Construction is anticipated to begin at the end of June and continue through September 2026. During this time, the walkway will be closed to allow crews to safely complete the work.
The planned improvements include:
• New lighting upgrades to improve visibility and safety, particularly during evening hours
• Stormwater drainage enhancements to help address water-related issues and improve long-term durability
• Repairs to leaning retaining walls and fencing to improve safety and stability
These upgrades are designed to create a safer, more accessible, and welcoming connection for residents travelling between the Nelson Circle and Shanahan Boulevard neighbourhoods.
Resident notices are being distributed this week, and Town staff have already been connecting with nearby residents to provide information about the project and answer questions. While construction activity will create temporary inconveniences, I appreciate the patience and understanding shown by residents throughout the planning process.
I am encouraged by the positive feedback received to date, with many residents expressing appreciation for the proactive communication and commitment to improving community infrastructure.
Investments like these may not always be highly visible, but they play an important role in maintaining safe, accessible, and connected neighbourhoods. By addressing concerns before they become larger issues, we help ensure our public spaces remain welcoming and functional for residents of all ages and abilities.
Thank you to the residents who provided feedback and to Town staff for their work in planning and delivering these improvements.
