Next Phase of Downtown Parking Improvements Begins September 2
As your Ward 6 Councillor, I’m pleased to share that the Town of Newmarket is moving into the next stages of its plan to enhance parking in the heart of our historic downtown. Building on the momentum of Phase 1, which wrapped up in March and added over 150 parking spaces for this summer’s festivals and events, we are now entering Phases 2 and 3 of the Riverwalk Commons Parking Lot (P3) improvements.
On the heels of our Town’s most successful TD Music Series, I want to thank everyone who came out to enjoy the shows. Your participation is what makes our downtown such a vibrant place to gather. Events like these are just another reason why investing in downtown parking improvements is so important — to ensure residents and visitors alike can continue to experience all that Newmarket has to offer.
What You Need to Know:
Construction timeline: Work will take place from September 2 to November 12, 2025, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with occasional weekend activity.
Parking access: Despite construction, over 200 parking spaces will remain available, ensuring minimal disruption for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Traffic and pedestrian safety:
Doug Duncan Drive will be narrowed temporarily to facilitate sidewalk installation.
All businesses and public access points will remain open, and emergency vehicle access will be maintained.
Event planning:
Scheduled events downtown will not be affected.
Additional signage will guide you to available parking areas.
Overnight parking:
Accessible at the north end of the lot, available throughout the construction period.
Our investment in downtown:
Improvements include curb repairs, full resurfacing, and a new sidewalk all aimed at boosting pedestrian safety, accessibility, and overall downtown experience.
Alternative Parking Options:
If the P3 lot is nearing capacity, feel free to use:
Fairy Lake Park parking
AOK Play Park lot
Street parking on Church Street and Cane Parkway
Lions Park parking on Church Street
