New Safety Improvements Coming to Rushbrook Drive and Seneca Court

Road safety continues to be one of the most important priorities in Ward 6, especially in neighbourhood areas where families, pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers all share the road together every day.

Recently, residents requested a review of the intersection at Rushbrook Drive and Seneca Court. Following a resident consultation process in the surrounding area, Town staff completed a detailed review of the intersection and brought forward a report recommending amendments to the policy and the conversion of the existing two-way stop into a four-way stop.

On May 4th, Council unanimously approved the staff recommendation.

The decision reflects several challenges identified at the intersection, including limited sight lines caused by the curve in the roadway and visibility challenges related to vehicles parked in nearby private driveways.

The first phase of the improvements has now been installed, including:
• The new four-way stop signage
• “Stop Ahead” warning signage approaching the intersection

Additional safety enhancements are also planned, including:
• Enhanced pedestrian crossing markings
• New centreline pavement markings along Rushbrook Drive to support lane discipline and traffic calming

As with any new traffic control change, it may take some time for drivers to fully adjust to the new traffic pattern after many years of the intersection operating differently.

Changes like this are never made lightly. They involve resident feedback, technical review, policy considerations, and ultimately Council approval. I want to thank everyone who took the time to participate in the consultation process and share their perspectives throughout the review.

Keeping our neighbourhoods safe requires ongoing collaboration between residents, staff, Council, and drivers themselves. As our community continues to grow, investments in traffic calming and road safety infrastructure will continue to play an important role in protecting all road users.

Thank you for continuing to stay engaged and involved in helping keep Ward 6 safe and connected.
