Celebrating Terry Fox at the Newmarket Library
I’m excited to share how our own Newmarket Library will be honouring Terry’s incredible legacy this September.
The Library team has put together a thoughtful program to help residents of all ages learn about Terry Fox’s courage, determination, and lasting impact on Canada.
What’s Planned
New Books on the Shelf: T is for Terry has been ordered and will be arriving soon. The Library already has more than 20 Terry Fox books in its collection, covering different age groups, with plans to add even more.
Terry Fox Storytime: Families with young children (ages 2 to 5) are invited to a special Terry Fox Storytime on Friday, September 12, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.. You can find full details and register on the Newmarket Library website.
Online Celebrations: Throughout September, the Library will feature Terry Fox on its social media channels, highlighting his story along with books and resources available for readers.
A Special Thank You
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Newmarket Public Library staff for going above and beyond this year by entering their own team in the Terry Fox Run proudly called “Overdue for a Cure.” Their creativity and commitment remind us all of the power of community and the importance of carrying Terry’s legacy forward.
Why It Matters
Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope is not only a story of courage, but also of community. The Library’s efforts to share his story ensure that a new generation of children and families can be inspired by his determination to make a difference.
As we prepare for this year’s Newmarket Terry Fox Run on September 14, I encourage everyone to visit the Library, borrow a Terry Fox book, attend the special storytime, and take part in celebrating one of Canada’s greatest heroes.
