Better Service Along Mulock Drive - York Region Transit
York Region Transit (YRT) joined Newmarket Council recently to share updates on their 2025 service improvements and the upcoming 2026 Annual Transit Plan. It’s always encouraging to see continued investment in transit that helps residents get where they need to go, whether that’s work, school, shopping, or community programs that make Newmarket such a vibrant and connected town.
One of the most meaningful improvements for our community this year is enhanced weekday frequency all day on the 57 Mulock and 33 Wellington–Leslie routes. These two lines serve as essential east-west connections across Newmarket, linking residential neighbourhoods to major destinations like Yonge Street, Bayview Avenue, Leslie Street, and Davis Drive.
For students and families in Ward 6, this improvement is particularly important. The 57 Mulock route runs directly along the corridor that connects Sir William Mulock Secondary School and nearby neighbourhoods, with stops only a short walk away from the campus. The route also provides convenient access for students of Newmarket High School, especially those who rely on transit for before- and after-school activities, part-time jobs, or volunteering across town.
When public transit is reliable and accessible, it opens opportunities, especially for our youth who are developing independence and contributing to our community.
Since these service upgrades were introduced, ridership in Newmarket has increased by approximately 5 percent compared to 2024, a clear sign that residents are choosing transit as a convenient and sustainable way to travel.
YRT is also developing its next five-year business plan, which will guide priorities from 2026 to 2030. The plan is built around five key pillars: financial responsibility, equity and diversity, safety, innovation, and customer focus. These priorities align well with our local goals, ensuring that Newmarket’s growth continues in a way that’s inclusive, forward-thinking, and environmentally responsible.
As part of the annual transit planning process, YRT invites residents to share feedback on proposed service changes. This input helps shape future decisions, ensuring local voices, including students, parents, and seniors, are reflected in the system we all rely on.

As your Ward 6 Councillor, I’m committed to supporting reliable, accessible, and sustainable transportation options that help keep Newmarket moving. The 57 Mulock route, in particular, plays an important role in connecting our neighbourhoods, schools, and local businesses. If you rely on this route or have ideas to improve local transit service, I’d love to hear your feedback. Together, we can continue building a connected and inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to get where they need to go safely and efficiently.
