Newmarket’s 2026 Budget - What This Means for Your Household
Newmarket Council has approved the 2026 Town budget, and I want to clearly share what this means for you and your household.
For the average Newmarket home, the Town portion of the tax increase works out to about $78 per year, or roughly $6.50 per month. Even with this increase, Newmarket continues to keep its tax levy about 10 per cent below the GTA average, remaining one of the lowest-taxed municipalities in York Region.
This budget reflects a careful balance. It allows the Town to maintain the services residents rely on every day, such as road maintenance, parks, facilities, and community programs, while also investing responsibly in infrastructure that supports long-term stability. Planning ahead helps prevent larger costs from being passed on to future residents.
You may also see modest changes to utility costs. The budget includes an annual increase of approximately $51 for water and wastewater services, based on typical household use, and about $7 per year for stormwater management. These adjustments support safe, reliable systems that protect our homes, streets, and environment.
As your Ward 6 Councillor, I supported this budget because it reflects responsible financial management, thoughtful planning, and respect for residents’ hard-earned tax dollars. My focus remains on keeping Newmarket affordable today, while making smart decisions that protect our community for the future.
