Blue Bin Program Update: Continuing to Advocate for Newmarket Residents

I want to share an important update regarding the Blue Bin issue that many of you in Ward 6 and across Newmarket have been raising with me.

Over the past several days, Mayor John Taylor and the Northern Six municipalities (N6) have met with the Province, including officials from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, as well as executives from Circular Materials and GFL. These discussions have been productive in ensuring that the concerns of Newmarket residents are clearly understood. Together, we have been emphasizing the need for smaller Blue Bin size options and the importance of maintaining service levels that work for households of all types across our communities.

At this stage, Circular Materials has not yet provided a firm commitment or timelines for offering smaller bin sizes in N6 communities. It is still too early to suggest bin size options are coming or to thank anyone for progress. However, we remain optimistic. The unified advocacy from Mayor Taylor and the N6 Mayors has brought these issues forward with clarity and strength, and this collaboration continues to play a key role in driving the conversation toward practical solutions.

As noted in the letter at the bottom of this blog, we will continue to press the Province and Circular Materials to ensure resident feedback is heard and reflected in the next steps. The Board of Directors for Circular Materials is expected to meet again this week, and we are hopeful that this discussion leads to meaningful action, including a commitment to bin size options and the maintenance of service levels that residents rely on.

I know many of you are looking for answers, and I appreciate your patience and your ongoing communication with me. Please know that your voices matter, and they are helping to guide our advocacy efforts. I will continue working alongside Mayor Taylor and the N6 Mayors until we have a clear and workable path forward for Newmarket.

As these conversations continue, I will keep you updated through my social channels and upcoming community newsletters. For ongoing updates and FAQs, please visit: newmarket.ca/blueboxrecycling
