Progress on Better Blue Bin Sizes: What You Need to Know
I want to share an important update regarding the Blue Bin issue that many of you in Ward 6 and across Newmarket have been raising with me.
Over the past several days, the N6 Mayors have been in direct discussions with the Province, including Minister McCarthy’s office. I want to recognize and thank Mayor John Taylor for his leadership throughout this process and for bringing a strong, united voice forward on behalf of Newmarket residents. The collective advocacy of the N6 Mayors has been essential in pushing this issue to the forefront.
Throughout these conversations, I have also been actively communicating our local concerns. The message has been clear: this rollout has created real challenges, particularly for seniors, people with mobility issues, and households where the current bin size simply does not meet practical, day-to-day needs.
Following the advocacy from Mayor Taylor and the N6 Mayors, Minister McCarthy issued a public statement confirming that the Province has heard the concerns from York Region residents and is now working with Circular Materials and service providers, including GFL, to ensure more appropriate bin size options will be made available. This is an important step in the right direction.
I appreciate that both the Minister and the Premier listened to the concerns brought forward on behalf of our communities. As soon as we receive clear next steps, I will update residents immediately through my social channels and upcoming community newsletters.
Thank you for continuing to share your experiences and concerns. Please know that I hear you, and I will keep advocating until we have a practical, workable path forward for Newmarket.
