Meet Me at Mulock A New Chapter in Newmarket’s History

Meet me at Mulock.

Today, we open the gates to 16 acres of history, nature, art and possibility. We open a place where families will gather, children will explore, neighbours will connect and generations will create memories together.

For generations, the Mulock family cared for this remarkable property. Their decision to trust our Town with its future was extraordinary. Today, we honour that trust by preserving the historic Mulock House and transforming the surrounding lands into a welcoming public space for everyone.

Debbie Mulock-Barbour (great-great-granddaughter of Sir William Mulock) lived in our community for years and could often be seen walking her two beautiful dogs. She would always say, “There should be people and lots of dogs enjoying the Farm and gathered on the Great Lawn.”

Mulock Park is a great example of how a community space can protect nature while investing in our environment. Instead of using fossil fuels, the park relies on clean energy from the earth to heat and cool its buildings, and solar panels to power its lights. It also features green roofs covered in plants and beautiful rain gardens that naturally soak up rainwater. These green spaces create safe habitats for local wildlife while stopping 500 tonnes of air pollution.

To make the heart of Newmarket healthier and more resilient, more than four acres of forest have been renaturalized, over 450 new trees have been planted, and thousands of native plants are expanding the tree canopy. Best of all, two kilometres of accessible trails now seamlessly connect the park to our wider Town trail, transit and multi-use path network.

Thank you to Mayor John Taylor and my fellow members of Council for the leadership, vision and commitment that helped make Mulock Park a reality.

John Taylor said “The Mulock Park will surprise and delight everyone who visits it and it is quite possibly the best park in the GTA, offering our residents an oasis of spaces and places to engage or relax. This park will serve our residents now and 100 years from now, it is an investment in our community and in our future.”

Thank you to our Town staff, whose vision, dedication and careful stewardship guided this transformational project. Thank you to the contractors, architects, designers and skilled tradespeople who turned an ambitious vision into something truly extraordinary. This will be forever known as the “Mulock Marathon!

As a member of the Town of Newmarket Accessibility Advisory Committee, I want to thank our members for years of work and guidance to help ensure Mulock Park is accessible for all.

Thank you to the Art Gallery of Ontario for seeing the possibilities and helping us imagine a place where exceptional Canadian and Indigenous art can live beyond traditional gallery walls, surrounded by history and nature.

Thank you to the thousands of residents who shared their ideas and helped shape the vision for this park. Thank you to our neighbours who lived alongside the construction, disruption and uncertainty with patience and perseverance.

Thank you to all our community partners who generously donated their time, talent and materials to help bring the park and its grand opening celebrations to life.

Finally, thank you to our Mulock Ambassadors, who have worked alongside us for years, learning about the vision for Mulock Park and sharing that journey with our neighbours to help keep our community informed and included every step of the way. As we open the gates, their role continues as they welcome visitors, share the story of this remarkable place and help everyone feel at home.

Mulock Park belongs to all of us. It honours our past, brings us together today and leaves a lasting legacy for our children, our grandchildren and generations still to come.
