Central York Fire Services Bringing Fire Safety Directly to Your Door This Summer
As Chair of the Central York Fire Services Joint Council Committee, I am incredibly proud of the proactive work our firefighters and fire prevention team do every day to keep residents in Newmarket and Aurora safe.
This summer, Central York Fire Services (CYFS) crews will once again be out in our neighbourhoods as part of the Stay Fire Smart Campaign, visiting homes across Newmarket and Aurora to share important fire prevention information, answer questions, and help families be prepared.
Fire safety starts before an emergency happens. These visits are about education, prevention, and having meaningful conversations with residents about simple steps that can save lives, from creating and practising a home escape plan to ensuring smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are properly installed and working.
Under Ontario law, homes are required to have working smoke alarms on every storey and carbon monoxide alarms outside sleeping areas. CYFS Smoke Alarm Campaign Specialists can help residents check alarms, replace batteries, answer questions, and provide support where needed.
What makes this program so special is the personal connection. Since launching in 2013, the Stay Fire Smart Campaign has reached thousands of residents through direct conversations at the door, helping build a safer and more prepared community.
Central York Fire Services represents the very best of collaboration between Newmarket and Aurora, a dedicated team committed not only to emergency response but also prevention, education, and protecting the people we serve.
If you see our CYFS team in your neighbourhood this summer, please say hello. They are there as a resource to support you and your family.
A sincere thank you to Fire Chief Ian Laing, our firefighters, fire prevention officers, and the entire CYFS team for your continued commitment to keeping our communities safe.
Together, through awareness, preparation, and prevention, we can all help keep Newmarket and Aurora fire safe.
