Council Calls for All-Ways Interchange at Highway 404 and Mulock Drive
Newmarket Council has passed a motion urging the Government of Ontario to construct an all-ways interchange at Highway 404 and Mulock Drive. This request reflects how much our community and region have grown since the interchange was first built more than three decades ago.
The current interchange was constructed in 1989. Since then, Highway 404 has been extended north to Georgina, and Newmarket’s population has doubled. Traffic patterns, employment areas, and regional travel needs have changed significantly, yet the interchange has not been updated to reflect this reality.
An all-ways interchange would improve access to and from Highway 404, strengthen connectivity across York Region, and better support the existing industrial and employment lands between Mulock Drive and Green Lane. It would also help reduce congestion on local roads and relieve future pressure on Davis Drive as surrounding areas continue to intensify.
This motion is about planning responsibly for growth, making better use of existing provincial infrastructure, and ensuring our transportation network supports residents, businesses, and emergency services now and into the future.
A copy of the motion will be shared with the Member of Provincial Parliament for Newmarket–Aurora, the Ontario Minister of Transportation, the Premier of Ontario, and municipal councils along the Highway 404 corridor to encourage coordinated regional advocacy.
