Bill 66: Restoring Ontario’s Competitiveness Act, 2018

Bill 66: Restoring Ontario’s Competitiveness Act, 2018
Newmarket Council members received the Town of Newmarket staff report titled Open-for-Business By-law (Bill 66) which identified concerns with the proposed legislation and recommended that the report be submitted to the Province of Ontario as feedback.

Newmarket sees significant environmental, social and human health concerns with the Open-for-Business By-law (Bill 66) planning by-law tool that forms Schedule 10 of the proposed Bill 66.

Bill 66 is intended to be an economic development tool for local municipalities. However, Newmarket believes that this legislation does not support the planning process to ensure that development applications are accepted in the best interest of the public. As a result, the Town of Newmarket does not support Bill 66’s Open-for-Business By-Law as proposed.
