ALERT Newmarket Snow Storm and Snow Removal Update

“AN UPDATE FROM OUR MANAGER OF PUBLIC WORKS SERVICES.”

Public Works completed a round of sanding since early this morning and began plowing as of 12:00 pm today on the primary roots.

The Parks department were out sanding/scraping the sidewalks and parking lots.
As the snow storm continues to pass over the Region and changes into rain the following is in place for Public Works to address:

Sidewalks -- plan is to have some staff stay until 6:30PM to look after the evening commute. During this time we will be focusing on regional roads and the major arteries through the center of town and the facility Parking lots. We will continue to monitor the weather through the night and respond tomorrow morning accordingly.

Roads - Six (6) large plough trucks will continue to plough the primaries till 10 pm. During the evening commute it is difficult to accomplish snow clearing operations. At 10 pm the on call staff and contractor (11 trucks in total) will begin a full street clearing operation and will continue during the overnight.

Once the temperatures changes and rain arrives Public Works will adjust their strategy accordingly.
