Paving John F Smith Trail.jpeg

Paving of the John F. Smith Trail

Beginning on June 27th, the Town of Newmarket will bepaving the existing John F. Smith gravel trail, from Colter Street to Mulock Drive.

The Town is required to regrade the trail past the bridge off of Colter Street (see map at the bottom of this notice) in order to comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

During the day, a section of the trail between Colter Street to Valley Green Trail will be closed. This regrading work will take place after the Canada Day weekend and should take approximately 3 to 5 days to complete, depending on weather. Detour signs will be in place at each end of the trail indicating alternate routes when the trail is closed. The trail will be opened at the end of each work day between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Once the regrading work is complete, the contractor will pave the trail and sod any affected areas. During this work, the trail will be open to the public, however, users may be required to slightly deviate around specific construction areas. Please take extra caution when travelling in and around the area.

The Town will also be installing new benches and tri-waste containers along the length of the trail.

The full scope of the work will take approximately 3 to 4 weeks to complete.

If you have any additional questions, please call myself or the Town of Newmarket at 905-895-5193 or email info@newmarket.ca

By working together, sharing information, ideas and being engaged in our community we can achieve great things for Newmarket.
