Suspect Sought Following Sexual Assault Upper Canada Mall In Newmarket

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit are seeking public assistance to identify a suspect wanted in connection with a sexual assault in the Town of Newmarket that may be linked to other similar-style assaults.

On Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at approximately 7 p.m., a 59-year-old female from the Town of Newmarket was walking through Upper Canada Mall. A man can be seen on surveillance video watching the woman and following her as she exits the mall. As she walked to her car that was parked in the south lot of the mall he followed her and hit her in the buttocks and ran south towards Davis Drive.

Investigators are releasing the video and images and requesting public assistance to identify this suspect.

Investigators are also appealing to anyone that may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

This investigation is still in the early stages however it appears this incident may be connected to four other similar sexual assaults in Newmarket, which occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at approximately 7:30 a.m., on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at approximately 2:30 p.m. and Friday, September 25, 2015, at approximately 9:25 a.m.
