The Town of Newmarket is exploring changes to its current animal control by-law and the introduction of licensing pet stores and wants to hear from residents and stakeholders.

Join us for a Public Information Centre (PIC) regarding Animal Control and Pet Store Licensing on Thursday, January 23rd from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Municipal Office (395 Mulock Drive). In addition kindly take our online survey that will be available until February 9, 2020. 

On January 1, 2020, the Provincial Animal Welfare services (PAWS) Act came into force, creating the first fully provincial government-based animal welfare enforcement system in Canada. 

The introduction of a pet store licensing regime would establish rules and regulations surrounding the sale of pets, the ethical sourcing of pets for sale and how retailers can treat the animals they sell (if permitted). learn more and to take the survey
